Step Back in Time with NANDANIE: Embracing Fashion and Freedom

In lieu of yesterday being Women's Equality Day, Monday August 26th 2024, I am filled with gratitude for the freedom we as women have today.

There's something magical about the world of The Gilded Age—a time when elegance dripped from every hem, and style was an art form. As I watched the series, I found myself completely captivated by the grandeur of the clothing. Those dresses, with their intricate designs and sumptuous fabrics, made me almost wish I could slip into one, just for a moment, and experience the world through the eyes of a woman of that era.

Imagine seeing the Brooklyn Bridge for the first time, a marvel of engineering and beauty, as it stretched across the East River, connecting two worlds. Picture witnessing a building light up with electricity, a symbol of progress and innovation, flickering to life for the very first time. The thought of living in such a transformative time is tempting. But as much as I adored the fashion, there's a stark reality to that time that can't be ignored.

It was an era when women couldn't vote, couldn't open a bank account in their own name, and had to navigate a world that often undervalued their contributions. Even the Brooklyn Bridge, that stunning icon, was partially designed by a woman whose involvement had to be concealed to ensure people would feel safe driving across it.

So while those dresses might be the stuff of dreams, I say, "Thank G-d" for the freedoms we have today. We live in a time where our voices matter, where our choices are our own, and where fashion is just one of the many ways we express our power and individuality.

At NANDANIE, we celebrate that freedom with every tie we create. We can wear what we want, when we want, and yes, we can put on a tie, just like a man—but with our own unique twist. Because today, fashion isn't just about style; it's about choice. And that's something worth celebrating.
