June is Rebuild Your Life Month, celebrated annually in June, encourages individuals to pause and contemplate their current way of life. It serves as a reminder that it is never too late to pursue the life you have always envisioned. This could entail making a career shift, embarking on a sabbatical, or altering your educational trajectory.
In 2017, my divorce was finalized, marking the end of a marriage that lasted over 18 years. Throughout my adult life, I dedicated myself to supporting my ex-husband, his aspirations, and taking care of our family. However, it became apparent that my ex was leading a double life while we were married, leading to a divorce that could rival a dramatic movie or anyone's conception of hell.
The ensuing legal battles dragged on for years, with me constantly defending against fabricated lies. I found myself grappling with an antiquated family court system that seemed only concerned with physical abuse, struggling to make them understand the concept of emotional abuse. Meanwhile, I held on tightly, juggling the responsibilities of raising my children while dealing with a twisted and sick individual. His family, too afraid to face the truth about him, chose to sever ties with us rather than confront reality.
Despite all the anger, frustration, resentment, hurt, and sadness I experienced, I made a pivotal decision. I reminded myself that I only have one life to live, and I refused to let him consume any more of my precious time. At 48 years old, I mustered the courage to pursue my lifelong dream of working in the fashion industry. And to be happy.
It's crucial for every woman to understand that they are not trapped in their circumstances. Tina Turner, for example, made the courageous decision to leave her abusive husband after enduring 16 years of marriage. Vera Wang, a renowned fashion designer, didn't embark on her entrepreneurial journey until she turned 40. Octavia Spencer, an acclaimed actress, found her breakthrough and achieved fame in her 40s.
It's evident to me now why I was drawn to accessories that empower women. Neckties, traditionally symbolizing nobility, honor, and order have transformed into fashionable statements. They serve as a reminder of my resilience and determination to reclaim my life.
I want to remind everyone, you have ONE LIFE TO LIVE. It is never too late to pursue your dreams and create a fulfilling, happy life.
XO,
Nancy Daniele Berman
